What We Believe

OUR MISSION

To lead people into a passionate relationship with Jesus Christ.

OUR VALUES

EVERYONE MATTERS TO GOD.

We Value People.
"God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him won’t perish but will have eternal life." (John 3:16)

EVERYONE NEEDS DIRECTION.

We Value Truth.
"The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand." (Psalm 119:130)

EVERYONE NEEDS COMMUNITY.

We Value Relationships.
"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24,25)

EVERYONE HAS A NEXT STEP.

We Value Growth.
"Let the wonderful kindness and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you to keep on growing." (2 Peter 3:18)

EVERYONE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

We Value Generosity.
"The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ…we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part…and God has put each part just where he wants it. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it." (I Corinthians 12:12-27)

Our BELIEFS

ABOUT GOD

Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22 • Psalm 90:2 • Matthew 28:19 • 1 Peter 1:2 • 2 Corinthians 13:14

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Matthew 1:22, 23 • Isaiah 9:6 • John 1:1-5; 14:10-30 • Hebrews 4:14,15 • 1 Corinthians 15:3,4 • Romans 1:3,4

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

2 Corinthians 3:17 • John 16:7-13, 14:16,17 • Acts 1:8 •
1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16 • Ephesians 1:13

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

ABOUT THE BIBLE

2 Timothy 3:16 • 2 Peter 1:20,21 • 2 Timothy 1:13 • Psalm 119:105,160; 12:6 • Proverbs 30:5

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

Genesis 1:27 • Psalm 8:3-6 • Isaiah 53:6a • Romans 3:23 • Isaiah 59:1,2

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin".  This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

ABOUT SALVATION

Romans 6:23 • Ephesians 2:8,9 • John 14:6, 1:12 • Titus 3:5

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY

John 10:29 • 2 Timothy 1:12 • Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14
• 1 Peter 1:3-5

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot lose it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

ABOUT ETERNITY

John 3:16 • John 14:17 • Romans 6:23 • Romans 8:17-18 • Revelation 20:15 • 1 Corinthians 2:7-9

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is Eternal Life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

ABOUT SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE

Psalm 139

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human Life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

ABOUT MARRIAGE

Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe the Bible teaches that monogamous marriage between a man and a woman is God’s intended design for humanity.

ABOUT SEXUALITY AND GENDER

Genesis 1:26-27; Matthew 15:18-20; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. We believe that the proper place for sexual relations is only within the context of God’s intended design of marriage. We believe that any form of sexual immorality is sinful and contrary to the will of God our Creator.

ABOUT OUR ATTITUDES

Ephesians 4:7; 1 Timothy 1:3-11; 1 Peter 1:13-16, 4:1-3

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, regardless of their current lifestyle, and seek His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. We recognize the complexity of current issues regarding sexual morality, marriage, and other expressions of human sexuality such as same-sex attraction, gender identity, and sex outside the covenant of marriage. Therefore, we seek to engage these conversations and other actions related to these topics with prayerfulness and humility while pointing people to Jesus Christ. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the values of TrueNorth Church.
