Purpose in Pain and Suffering

When you follow Jesus and His words, you begin to recognize that His teaching, values, and actions are often unfamiliar because they are very different than the world. Sometimes you feel at odds with the cultural norm, because His ways are Counter Culture.

Peter was one of the disciples who followed Jesus the closest. He wrote a book to those following Jesus that felt discouraged and disoriented in the face of the culture they lived in. At times they felt like foreigners in the world, primarily because of their association and devotion to Jesus. He encouraged them to stay the course despite the frustration, confusion, and suffering they might experience. During the next several weeks we will unpack the book of 1 Peter and his invitation for each of us to experience the hope and strength that Jesus gives us to live Counter Culture.
