“So what number are you?”

This was a popular question among my family recently as we all took the Enneagram personality test just for kicks. The Enneagram is a series of questions, when answered honestly, assigns a number 1-9 which is intended to describe one’s personality.

As we revealed our numbers to each other, we laughed and pointed fingers because the results were spot on in the worst ways. I didn’t want to be a Six and contemplated retaking the test.

I read the descriptions, considering which number I would rather be. Sevens have much more fun. Why can’t I be more easygoing like a Nine? Threes seem to have it all together.

After reading further, I discovered that every number has their own issues. Anxious. Isolated. Temperamental. Image-conscious. They are all hot messes. But one thing they all have in common is the way God sees them:

Loved. Accepted. Forgiven. Masterpiece.

Have you ever been so caught up in labels or what others say about you that you lose sight of who God says you are? He knows who you really are no matter what labels are placed on you – or how you label yourself.

You are greatly loved:

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

You are accepted:

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” Romans 15:7

You are forgiven:

“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12

You are His masterpiece:

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Psalm 139:14

So shake off those negative vibes! Believe what God says about you. You are a unique piece of work, made by God to be exactly who you are. Embrace the greatness inside of you and the potential you have in Christ.

Thank you God for making us so wonderfully complex!
