Where do you hate waiting? Sitting at the DMV came to my mind. At the dentist, maybe? What about the emergency room or doctor’s office? Maybe you’re waiting right now – not in a physical line but waiting in time. It could be waiting for a proposal, a promotion, or even a phone call that will change everything.
At some point, each of us will wait on something or someone to come our way. If you find yourself in a season of waiting, I encourage you to use this time to examine yourself and your relationship with God. Sometimes, God is waiting on us so he can build our character along the journey.
If you’re wondering what God might be trying to teach you as you wait, consider these questions:
Are you waiting passively instead of actively?
It isn’t a sin to chase your dreams! Nearly all of the miracles in the Bible occurred after someone dared to take action. Maybe you’ve been waiting on God, but God is waiting on you to take the next step of faith and courage. Ask God what next step he’s calling you to.
Could the waiting be preparing you for what’s next?
There have been times in my life that if my dream or prayer had been answered right away, I wouldn’t have fully appreciated it. If your prayer was answered today, would you be ready? If the answer is no, think about what needs to change in your life to make room for your dream to become a reality.
Have you missed how God has already answered your prayers?
Is what we are chasing – a better job, a bigger home, a good friend, a happy marriage — already here, but it looks a little different than what we expected? Look around at the things God has provided for you during this season of waiting to see if maybe you’ve missed an even bigger blessing in disguise.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
