In 1986, my wife Beth and I moved 960 miles away from our hometown of North Augusta. It was a sad and exciting day at the same time. We were off to new adventures in Fort Worth, Texas where I would pursue a new career in full-time ministry. At Southwestern Seminary, I learned about a new kind of church that was beginning to sweep across the nation reaching my generation – Baby Boomers.

The message of these contemporary churches was the same timeless gospel message of Jesus Christ but the method was different. The music style was more relevant to me and my friends. The dress code was relaxed. The preaching was practical Biblical teaching that applied to my every day life.

As I learned more about these churches, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this new movement. In addition, I prayed and thought, “I’d love to see a church like this in my hometown.”

Enter Steve Davis and TrueNorth Church. Fifteen years ago, God gave Steve Davis a similar burden. A church designed for those who are not involved in a church or who had given up on church altogether. Expecting a few hundred people at best, Steve started TrueNorth with a handful of families. Today, we stand amazed that God has allowed TrueNorth to reach thousands of people each week. I was invited to join the TrueNorth family in 2006. It was truly a dream come true for me.

In 1986, the land on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River was mostly swampland. But many years ago, some city leaders and developers had a dream. They dreamed of a beautiful riverfront that everyone could enjoy. In 1998, the River Golf Club was opened along with beautiful homes lining the river. Then came the Hammond’s Ferry development. Now, we have a state-of-the-art professional baseball stadium – SRP Park.

Our city’s dreams have come true!

On Easter Sunday, we will combine two dreams at one place. TrueNorth Church will host Easter at SRP Park. The dream of a new, exciting church will join the dreams of a thriving, growing city.

The story of Easter is a story of new life, hope, and love. God loves you so much that He gave His one and only Son for you. Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection provides us with new life and a love that cannot be matched by any human on earth. Jesus is worth celebrating. He has given us the promise of abundant and eternal life. If you’ve ever dreamed of having peace, contentment, and everlasting joy, I encourage you to consider following Jesus. He will change your life.

Everyone is invited to Easter at SRP Park this Sunday, April 21 as we celebrate what Jesus has done. Gates open at 9 AM. Service starts at 10:30 AM. You can check out for more information, including a parking map. See you there!
