I love leading the people of our church in worship. There is something really special about seeing the family of TrueNorth Church singing and lifting their hands in praise to our heavenly Father. I’m a little biased, but I happen to think it’s the best view in town!

When we worship God, we are giving Him the honor that He is due in the best way we know how. Of course, as sinful human beings we fall short. Even when we are at our best, we can’t truly give God all that He deserves. He is perfect and we are not.

Not long ago, someone asked me what I think about when I lead worship. It was kind of a funny question, but I did my best to answer it. I told them that in addition to thinking about the music and the words and what I’m playing on my guitar, I normally think about how grateful I am for all that God has done for me. And I think at the end of the day, that should be our response anytime we worship God.

Gratitude is the currency of worship.

I think life is a great exchange. God gives us blessings that are immeasurable. He gives and gives and never stops. When we worship God, we are doing our part to give back – to give thanks for the blessings that He has given us. And even though God will always out-give us, what better pursuit is there in life but to pour out our gratitude to the One who gave us life, meets our needs and never leaves our side?

“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.” Psalm 7:17
