Our North Augusta High School Lady Jackets basketball team won the South Carolina State Championship again this past Saturday night! They are back-to-back State Champs after having won the State title a year ago. I have enjoyed the thrill of introducing the Lady Jackets in their home games the past two years and watching them play. They are the best girls high school basketball team that I’ve seen in person. These girls are talented, play hard and are fun to watch. There are many reasons for their unprecedented success, but foremost in my mind is their unselfish play as a team.

As I watched them play the past two years, I’ve been reminded of the acronym of TEAM, Together Everyone Accomplishes More. The Lady Jackets play the game of basketball with this motto in mind. The unity begins before they start the game as they chant and sing their songs as one voice in the locker room before rushing on to the floor. As they play on the court whether it’s offense or defense there is a connectedness and synchronization to their movements together. They trust each other, they communicate with one another and they play for each other. It’s such a joy to watch, because they are not concerned with who scores or who gets the block or steal, as long they get it done together. The beauty in which they play the game together allowed them to make North Augusta High School basketball history to the tune of 54 wins and 1 loss the past two years.

The togetherness of this team reminds every church, company, school, team and organization of what can happen when no one cares who gets the credit. When team members support each other and accept their roles for the greater good, the sky is the limit in what can be accomplished.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, the apostle Paul encouraged every person in the church to never forget this truth. He said,

“All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”

In the church, we are a team just like the Lady Jackets. God desires for us to care for each other, look out for one another and play well together, not caring who gets the credit. As a follower of Christ, we are all valuable to God’s team whatever part we play.  As we embrace that opportunity for His glory together, the power of His Church can change the world.

Congratulations, Lady Jackets! You have inspired us all!
