Fourteen months ago, Jesus caught my attention and changed everything about me. He turned my worldly desires into spiritual hunger. You see, when you do not know your worth, your value, the truth and about what Jesus has done for us, all you have to worship are things of the world.
Before I meet Jesus, I longed for the approval of people and to be the center of attention. I longed to be important. I worshiped people, lied constantly, developed toxic friendships, always wanted money, drank too much alcohol, and even did drugs. I do not feel that it would bless you to know the details. The night before I was saved, I was out on the town doing things that took a while for me to sort out how to forgive myself. My family was secondary to my bad habits, and my heart deceived me into believing that my desperate longing for Jesus was the last thing I needed.
I was never the church going girl. The enemy had me convinced that I would never be worthy.
Before you know Jesus, before you worship Him, you worship the world and that is a scary place to be. Some would call it the “devil’s playground.” God changed all of that on a day that I would have never been smart enough to plan. Radically, He taught me that it was never my plan. It was always His. I was always His.
“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.”
Genesis 1:31 NIV
Then, why does the world have such evil in it?
Why do people that were created by God to do good, seem so bad?
Why do we make bad decisions?
Why do we worship the pit of sin, darkness, and destruction?
Sin is treason against God. Believing that we have more wisdom and understanding than the Creator of the Universe is our heart’s greatest deception. When God made us, He put us in this world to do good because He has been SO good to us. We may be in the world, but we are not of it.
“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Genesis 2:7 NIV
That’s the part that blows my mind!! We aren’t of it! We were uniquely made new in Jesus Christ!
How awesome is it that in this world of deception and destruction that we live in, it does not belong to us? We don’t belong to the world, so of course we are going to have trouble in it. You will not find everlasting joy in sin, or in believing you belong to the stronghold you feel you cannot get out of. You are weighed down and feel there is no way you can stand. I have good news, when you know who you belong to, it makes this world seem so small. It makes you long to know Him in ways that no human being can describe. When you live in it and not of it, your trials are temporary.
No matter the depth of the pit, the height of your giant, or the shame in your heart, you are never too far from His everlasting love for you. If you feel anything but worthy of what Jesus has accomplished for you, the enemy is desperately holding those chains and shackles together for dear life. The enemy is a liar.
Jesus loves you uniquely. He loves you more than you could ever imagine. He created you. He came to earth in human form to suffer and die for every single sin you have committed, for every single deception, and for every single lie. Surely, our Father wants you to know Him. Even right now, in this moment, as you are reading this, know that He is with you.
